Line Web Background in Adobe Illustrator
In today’s tutorial, you will learn to create a Line Web Background in Adobe Illustrator. Tools that will be used are Rectangle Tool, Pen Tool, Drop Shadow Effect, and a few other tools.
Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document with RGB color mode. Now follow the below steps:
Select the Rectangle Tool from the Tool Panel and draw a rectangle the same as the size of the artboard.
Fill the rectangle with color #e6e9ee and turn off the Stroke color.
Press Ctrl + 2to lock the background.
Now select the Pen Tool from the Tool Panel. Press Shift + X to Swap Fill and Stroke. Change the Stroke Color to #cdd5e0. Now draw random lines on the artboard and increase the stroke size to 20 pt.
Now select all the strokes and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Then select Expand and a dialogue box will pop on the artboard. In that dialogue box, click OK.
After expanding the strokes, select a few lines randomly and go to the Pathfinder Panel. In the Pathfinder Panel, click on Unite to add the select lines with each other forming a compound path.
With the help of the Direct Selection Tool, make the edges of the inner shapes round as shown in the below images.
Now we have two layers of Compound Paths. Select one layer and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Stylize and select Drop Shadow.
In the Drop Shadowbox, set the blend to Normal and then set the positions of X offset and Y offset. Also, reduce the Opacity.
We will again apply the Drop Shadow Effect on the same layer. When you will select Drop Shadow Effect in the Menu Bar, a dialogue box will appear to confirm whether you want to apply a new effect or you want to edit the applied effect. In that dialogue box, you will click on Apply New Effect.
The color of the shadow is white and the opacity is 100%.
Now we will apply the Drop Shadow Effect a third time on the same layer.
Similarly, apply the same effect on another layer of the compound path.
Select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle on the artboard. Fill the rectangle with a gradient and then open the Transparency Panel and set the Blend to Soft Light.
So this is how you can create an abstract background in Adobe Illustrator.
