Illusion of Depth in Illustrator

Today we will create the Illusion of Depth in Adobe Illustrator. To create the Depth Illusion on text, we will use the Rectangle Tool, Type Tool, 3D Effect, Transparency Panel, and few other illustrator tools.

Now launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Then follow the below-mentioned step by step process-

Step 1

We will first create a background for the depth illusion text.

Select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle the same as the size of the artboard. Fill the rectangle with color # b25538.

Select the rectangle and press Ctrl + 2 to lock the background.

Step 2

Now select the Type Tool and type the text on the artboard.

Fill the text with color # 85402a.

Select the text and press Ctrl + C to copy the text. We will paste the text in the further steps.

Step 3

Select the text and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select Rotate.

Now in the 3D Rotate Options dialogue box, set the position of the text to Isometric Top and click OK.

Step 4

Let the text be selected and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Then select Expand Appearance.

Then press Alt + Ctrl + 7 to Release the Clipping Mask.

Now press Shift + Ctrl + G to ungroup the selection. Then select the rectangle shape appearing around the text and hit backspace to remove it.

Step 5

Now we will apply Drop Shadow Effect to the text.

Select the text and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Stylize and select Drop Shadow.

In the Drop Shadow dialogue box, select the blending mode as Soft Light and select #ffffff as the shadow color.

Increase the Opacity to 100 % and reduce the Blur to 0 pt. Now set X Offset and Y Offset to 1 pt.

Check the Preview and click OK.

Step 6

Now press Ctrl + F to paste the text we have copied in Step 2. Fill the text with a grey color.

Select the text and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select Extrude & Bevel.

In the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options dialogue box put a checkmark on Preview and set the position of the text as Isometric Top.

Now increase the Extrude Depth and reduce the Ambient Light. Then turns off the cap for hallow appearance.

Step 7

With the help of the Selection Tool, select the text layer which is below this extruded text and drag the text and bring it on the extruded text. (See the image below)

Let the text layer be selected and press Ctrl + C to copy the text and then press Ctrl + F to paste it in front.

Then select the text layer pasted in front and press Shift + Ctrl + ] to bring the text layer in the front. Change the text color to #ffffff.

Step 8

Now select the text layer filled with white color and the extruded text layer then press Shift + Ctrl + F10 to open the Transparency Panel.

In the Transparency Panel, click on Make Mask and set the Blending Mode to Overlay. You will see a Depth Illusion in the text.

Step 9

Now select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle the same as the size of the artboard. Then fill the rectangle with a red linear gradient.
