Glowing Effect in Photoshop
Today, we will create a Glowing Effect in Photoshop. With the help of Photoshop tools and filters, you can make anything glowing. You have to select the subject and apply filters and effects to make it glow.
We will use the Selection Tool, Gaussian Blur Filter, and Adjustment Layers to Create a Glowing Effect in Photoshop.
Let’s begin with the Glowing Effect in Photoshop tutorial-
Launch Adobe Photoshop and open the image in which you want to create the glow effect. Now follow the below-mentioned steps-
Step 1
With the help of the Selection Tool, select the subject from the image. I have used the Quick Selection Tool.
Step 2
Press Ctrl + J to create a duplicate layer of the selection.
Go to Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object. Set the Blending Mode of the layer to Screen.
Step 3
Again press Ctrl + J to create a duplicate copy of the Smart Object Layer.
Now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. In the Gaussian Blur window, set the Radius to 5 px.
Step 4
Again, we will create a duplicate layer by pressing Ctrl + J. Then double click on the Smart Filter to open the Gaussian Blur Window. In the Gaussian Blur window, set the Radius to 150 px.
Step 5
One last time, press Ctrl + J and then double-click on the Smart Filter Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius to 300 px.
Step 6
Now select all the Smart Object Layers and press Ctrl + G to group them.
Step 7
In the Layers Panel, click on Create a new fill or adjustment layer icon and select Hue/Saturation. In the Hue/Saturation Properties Panel, click on the Clipping Mask icon and put the checkmark on Colorize. Then increase the saturation and select a color from the Hue slider.
Step 8
Create a duplicate layer of the Hue/Saturation by pressing Ctrl + J. Now drag and place that layer below the Group Layer.
Press Ctrl + I to invert the mask. Then select White as the Foreground Color and select the Brush Tool. Now hover the cursor near your glowing subject to create a realistic effect of light near the surrounding areas. After that, reduce the Opacity of the Layer Mask.
Step 9
Click on the Create a new fill or adjustment layer icon in the Layers Panel. Select Exposure from the options list. Then reduce the Exposure and increase the Gamma Correction.
Step 10
Select the Brush Tool and make sure that the Foreground Color is Black. Again hover the brush near the glowing object to make the surrounding lights visible. (See the image below)
