One way to achieve the spray paint effect is by utilizing custom brushes in Photoshop. You can find or create spray paint brushes that mimic the texture and behavior of real spray paint. Install the brush set in Photoshop, select the desired brush from the Brush Tool options, and adjust its size and opacity as needed. Use the brush to “spray” paint onto your canvas, creating strokes and splatters that emulate the chaotic and organic nature of spray paint.
Experiment with different brush sizes, opacity levels, and blending modes to achieve the desired effect. Overlaying multiple brush strokes and layering different colors can add depth and dimension to your artwork. Play around with the brush settings and test various techniques to create realistic and visually engaging spray paint effects.
In addition to custom brushes, Photoshop offers other tools and features that can enhance the spray paint effect. The Smudge Tool can be used to smudge and blend the painted strokes, creating a more fluid and dynamic appearance. The Eraser Tool can help you selectively remove or fade certain areas of the paint, allowing you to refine the overall composition.
Remember to experiment with layer blending modes, adjustment layers, and filters to further enhance and customize your spray paint effect. These additional tools and techniques can help you achieve the desired color tones, contrasts, and overall aesthetic.
In conclusion, the spray paint effect in Photoshop is a versatile technique that adds a raw and urban quality to your artwork. Launch Adobe Photoshop and follow the below-mentioned step-by-step process to create Spray Painted Text in Photoshop.
Step 1
Open the background image as a new document.
I want a dark background for my Spray Paint Text Effect in Photoshop. So, I will use the Solid Color adjustment layer. You can also use Levels to adjust the shadow, mid-tone, and highlights of the image.
Step 2
Select the Horizontal Type Tool from the Tool Panel. Then type your text.
Press Ctrl + T to activate Free Transform, then increase the size of your text.
Now we will reduce the Fill of the Text Layer to 0%.
Step 3
Let the text layer be selected and go to Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow. This step is important as the Drop Shadow Layer Style plays an important role in creating Spray Paint Text Effect in Photoshop.
In the Drop Shadow window, first of all, select the Color of the shadow by clicking on the color swatch. Then set the Blend Mode to Screen. The Opacity of the shadow is 100%.

Check the Preview and click OK.
Step 4
In this step, we will blend the text with the background.
After applying the Drop Shadow Layer Style, our text has been converted into the Spray Paint Effect, but it is not looking real. So, to make the text effect look more realistic, we will blend the text with the background image.
In the Blending Options window, you will see two sliders for blending. We will use the Underlying Layer slider.
In the Underlying Layer, there are two sliders; black and white. As we want to blend the text with the dark color of the background, so, we will use the Black slider. Press and hold the Alt key and drag one part of the slider towards left. With the help of the Alt key, we can divide the slider into two.
