In today’s tutorial, you will learn to create a Flat Potted Plant in Adobe Illustrator. Creating 2D flat art with basic shapes is a simple process in Adobe Illustrator. We will use some basic shapes and few other tools in this tutorial.

Step 1

Select the Rectangle Tool from the Tool Panel and draw a rectangle on the artboard and fill it with color #3c2415.

Step 2

Now select the PenTool and draw horizontal lines dividing the rectangle into equal parts.

Select the rectangle and lines with the help of the Selection Tool and Shift key. Now press Shift + Ctrl + F9 to open PathfinderPanel.

In the Pathfinder Panel, select Divide to divide the rectangle into parts and then ungroup the selection by pressing Shift + Ctrl + G. You can also change the fill color of the parts.

Step 3

Select the Direct Selection Tool from the Tool Panel and select the bottom-left anchor point of the first rectangle.

Now drag this anchor point slightly towards the right.

Similarly, select the bottom-right anchor point of the first rectangle and move it towards the left.

Now, we will make changes in the top and bottom anchor points of the remaining rectangles and after making the required changes our pot will look like this-

Step 4

Now, we will draw flat leaves for our plant in this step. Select the Pen Tool, and draw a leaf shape as shown in the below image. Fill the leaf shape with color # b0e1b7.

Select the leaf shape and create an Offset Path in negative values. Then fill that new path with a darker shade.

Now, draw a vertical line and divide the inner shape into two in the same way as we have divided the rectangle in the above steps. Then, fill the other half part with a lighter shape and your leaf is ready.

Step 5

Now, create few more copies of the leaf shape in different sizes and arrange them below the rectangle layer.
