Let’s begin with the tutorial. First, select a photo with some decent lights and edges. Then launch Adobe Photoshop and open the image as a new document.
Now follow the steps to create Pencil Sketch in Photoshop–
Open a colored photo in Adobe Photoshop.
Press Shift + Ctrl + U to Desaturate the image. This will convert your colored image into a black and white image.
Hit Ctrl + J to duplicate the photo. A copied layer will be created in the Layers Panel. Select the copied layer and press Ctrl + I to inverse the Desaturation effect. Then set the Blending Mode to Color Dodge.
Let the copied layer be selected and click on Filter in the Menu Bar. Hover the cursor on Blur and select Gaussian Blur. In the Gaussian Blur dialogue box, put checkmark on Preview and set the Radius.
In this step, we will adjust the contrast of the Pencil Sketch Effect. Click on Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer icon in the Layers Panel. Then select Levels from the options list. Set the Shadow, Midtone and Highlight values for the photo.
Now we will see how we can convert this black and white Pencil Sketch into Color Pencil Sketch. Again select the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer icon in the Layers Panel and select Solid Color from the options list. Pick a color from the Color Picker and then change the Blending Mode to Color.
