Transparent Text on Image in Photoshop
A Transparent Text in Photoshop is a creative way to make the text stand out from the image. In this Photoshop Tutorial, you will learn to create transparent text. I will show you two different ways of making transparent text on images in Photoshop.

This Photoshop Text Effect is fun, cool, and easy to create. One can use this Transparent Text Effect while designing a poster, brochure, or flyer. This effect can also be termed as the Cut-out text effect or Knock out Text Effect.

Method 1
Select an image for creating the Transparent Text and open it in Photoshop. Now follow the below mentioned step-by-step easy to create process-
Step 1
After opening the image, select the Horizontal Type Tool and type your text. Select a Bold Font type for the text and press Ctrl + T to freely transform the text. With the help of Free Transform (CTrl + T) you can stretch the text to increase its size.
In the tool preset bar, click on the color box to open the Color Picker. Pick a Black (#000000) color for the text.

Step 2
Select the Move Tool from the Tool Panel to change the position of the text. Then set the Blending Mode of the Text Layer to Soft Light.



Step 3
Now select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle same as the size of the image and fill the rectangle shape with white color.

Reorder the layers by selecting and draging the Rectangle Shape Layer below the Text Layer.

Step 4
Press and hold the Ctrl key and click on the Text Layer Thumbnail to select the text. Then press Shift + Ctrl + I to Inverse the selection.


Make sure that the shape layer is selected in the Layers Panel and then reduce the Opacity of the layer.

Press Ctrl + D to deselect.
You can also edit this Transparent Text in Photoshop by changing the background image or changing the fill color of the shape.

Method 2
Step 1
Open an image in Adobe Photoshop as a new document.

Step 2
Select the shape tool and draw a shape on the image. You can fill the shape with any color of your choice.

Step 3
As I have drawn a vertical box, so I will select the Vertical Type Tool to type the text. Select a bold font style for the text and black as the fill color. Press Ctrl + T to transform the text and place it inside the box.

Step 4
Double-click on the text layer to open the Layer Style dialogue box. In that dialogue box, under Advance Blending, set the Knockout to Shallow and reduce the Fill Opacity to 0%. Click Ok to apply the Layer Style.
