Sliced Text Effect in Photoshop
Today you will learn to make a Sliced Text Effect in Photoshop. To make this easy and outstanding text effect in photoshop we will use the Type Tool, Polygonal Lasso Tool, Layer Mask, and Drop Shadow Layer Style.
This text effect is not limited to Photoshop you can also make Sliced Text Effect in Adobe Illustrator.
Let’s begin with the Sliced Text Effect Photoshop Tutorial by launching Adobe Photoshop. Follow the below mentioned step-by-step process-
Step 1
Create a new document in Photoshop with a Black color background.
Step 2
Select the Horizontal Type Tool from the Tool Panel and type the text. Set the font size, font type, and font color for your text.
Step 3
Now we will convert the Text Layer into Smart Object Layer. Select the Text Layer, go to Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object.
Step 4
After converting the Text Layer to Smart Object Layer, select the Polygonal Lasso Tool from the Tool Panel. With the help of the tool, make a selection of a part of your text, in such a manner, that you are slicing that part from the text.
After making a selection of a part of the text, click on the Add Layer Mask icon in the Layers Panel. This will add a Layer Mask to the Smart Object Layer.
Press Ctrl + J to create a Duplicate Layer. Then select the Layer Mask Thumbnail of the duplicate layer and press Ctrl + I to Invert the Layer Mask.
Step 5
Select the Move Tool from the Tool Panel. With the help of the Move Tool, drag the selected part of the text slightly towards the left or right. This will give an effect of Sliced Text.
Step 6
Now we will create a Drop Shadow Effect, but before that, we will reorder the layers. Select the Top Layer (the copied layer) and place it below the original smart object layer.
Select the top layer (the original Smart Object Layer). Go to Layer > Layer Style> Drop Shadow. Apply the Drop Shadow Layer Style to the top layer. (see the images below)
