Text on 3D Shape in Adobe Illustrator
Many times you have learned to create different types of 3D shapes and 3D effects but in today’s tutorial, you will learn to add text on a 3D shape.
Adding text on a 3D shape is different from creating a 3D text effect. Let’s see how it is done-
Step 1
Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now we will create our text box. For that go to the Tool Panel and select the Rectangle Tool. Draw a square on the artboard of the size of which you want to create your text box.
Now select the Type Tool and create a paragraph type box inside the square shape.
Step 2
You can edit the text inside the paragraph. Select the default text in the paragraph type box and hit backspace. Now you can type your own text.
Once the text box is ready we will add it as a symbol. Open the Symbols Panel and then select the rectangle and the text and drag them to the Symbols Panel.
When you will drag the selection to the Symbols Panel, the Symbol Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, you can give a name to your symbol and then click OK.
Step 3
After saving the symbol, we will create a 3D shape. Again select the Rectangle Tool and draw a square.
Select the square and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select Extrude & Bevel.
3D Extrude & Bevel Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, put a checkmark on Preview and then increase the Extrude Depth. If you wish you can manually rotate the 3D shape.
Step 4
Now click on Map Art and a new dialogue box will appear. In that Map Art dialogue box, click on the drop-down button of Symbol and select the new symbol added.
Select the surface and place the Symbol.
Place the symbol on all three sides and your text in 3D shape in Adobe Illustrator is ready.
