Repeating Pattern in Photoshop
In this tutorial, we will create a Seamless Pattern in Photoshop. You will learn the basics of creating and using repeating patterns in Photoshop. Firstly, we will create a tile for our pattern. Secondly, we will save it as a pattern in Photoshop. At last, we will fill the entire layer with the created pattern.
You can apply the pattern to any background, object, t-shirts, etc. The pattern can be created either using any image or any custom shape. In this tutorial, we will use custom shapes to Create Patterns in Photoshop.
Launch Adobe Photoshop and create a new document of size 500px X 500px. Now follow the below-mentioned step-by-step process to create a Seamless Repeating Pattern in Photoshop.
Step 1
Select the Custome Shape Tool from the Tool Panel. Then select a shape from the Custom Shape Picker.
Step 2
After selecting the Custom Shape from the Custom Shape Picker, draw the shape on the artboard using the left-click.
You can transform the size of the shape by activating Free Transform Tool (Ctrl + T).
Step 3
By default, the color filled in the shape is black. To change the color of the shape, select the shape layer in the Layers Panel. Then in the Options Bar click on the Fill swatch and select the color from the swatches.
Step 4
Now we will create a tile for our pattern. Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool from the Tool Panel. Then with the help of the tool, select the shape created. The area selected by the tool will be saved as the pattern. So, carefully select the shape while using the tool.
Step 5
In this step, we will save the tile as pattern.
Go to Edit > Define Pattern. Then a Pattern Name dialogue box will appear. In that dialogue box, you can give a name to your pattern and then click OK.
Step 6
In this step, we will apply the pattern to a layer. For that, create a new document in Photoshop. Then go to Edit > Fill.
In the Fill dialogue box, set the Contents to Pattern. Then in Custom Pattern select the pattern saved in above steps and Click OK. The layer will get filled with the Repeated Pattern.
