Custom Art Brush in Adobe Illustrator
Many pre-defined brushed are available in Brush Library but you can create your own custom brush. There are five types of brushes in Adobe Illustrator; i.e.; Calligraphic Brush, Scatter Brush, Art Brush, Bristle Brush, and Pattern Brush.
Today you will learn to make Art Brush and also save a Custom Art Brush. With the help of this tutorial, you will also learn where you can find Art Brush in Illustrator.
Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document.
Step 1
Draw a shape, of which you want to create a brush, with the help of Pen Tool or Pencil Tool. Try to draw the shape which I have drawn in the below image with the help of Pen Tool.
I had disabled the strokes while drawing this shape. You can set the width of the shape as much as you want it in your art brush stroke. I am going to reduce its width. (See in the below image)
Step 2
After setting up the width of the shape, select the shape and drag it to the Brushes Panel as shown in the below image.
When you will reach the Brushes Panel you will see a plus (+) sign at the bottom of the cursor. At the time when that plus (+) sign appears at the bottom of the cursor, release the cursor and New Brush Window will appear. This window will have the options of types of brushes. From those options select Art Brush and click OK.
When you will click OK, Art Brush Option Window will appear. In that window, you can give a name to your art brush. Don’t make any changes in the settings. In most of the cases it is not required but do change the Colorization Method from None to Tints and then click OK.
When you will click OKyour Custom Art Brush will appear in the Brushes Panel.
Step 3
You have created your Custom Art Brush. If you want to save it permanently for future use you can do so by clicking on Brush Libraries Menu.
This icon is present at the bottom right of the Brushes Panel. After selecting Brush Libraries Menu, select Save Brushes. Save As window will appear. Give a name to your Custom Art Brush and click on Save.
Your Custom Art Brush is saved and you can open it from User-Defined which is also in the Brush Libraries Menu.
Drawing Time
As you have created your Custom Art Brush and also have saved it, now it’s time to use your custom art brush to draw something beautiful.
I have drawn this with the help of the Custom Art Brush which we have created above.
Practice Time
Now it’s your turn to create a Custom Art Brush of another shape and draw something with the help of that Custom Art Brush.
