Flat Vector Character illustration in Adobe Illustrator

In today’s tutorial, we will make Flat Vector Character illustration in Adobe Illustrator with the help of some basic geometric shape and Shape Builder Tool.

It is a fun process and you can make various characters as per your imagination.

Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now follow the below steps:

Step 1

Select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle on the artboard. Turn off the Stroke and Fill the rectangle with color #f1dbcb.

Now select the Direct Selection Tool from the Tool Panel. Then click on the bottom left circle inside the rectangle. Press & hold the Shift key and select the bottom right circle.

And, Now both the circles at the bottom are selected. Drag them towards the center to convert the corners into a curved shape.

This shape is the base for the face of the Flat Vector Character illustration.

Step 2

Now select the EllipseTool and select #131131as Fill color. Now draw two circles of different sizes and place them as shown in the below image.

Again select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle, larger in size, fill with the same color.

Let the rectangle be selected and press Shift + Ctrl + [to send the rectangle at the back.

Step 3

With the help of the Direct Selection Tool, select the rectangle layer which will be the hair of the Flat Vector Character illustration, and make the corners round. (See the image below)

Step 4

Press Ctrl + A to select all the shapes and then select the Shape Builder Tool from the Tool Panel.

After selecting the tool, press & hold the Alt key and move the cursor on the shapes, which are outside the rectangle, to remove them.

Step 5

With the help of the Ellipse Tool and Rectangle Tool, draw the features of the Flat Vector Character illustration.

Step 6

Again select the Rectangle Tool and draw a small rectangle. Then with the help of Direct SelectionTool convert the corners into a round shape as done in the above steps.

Place this rectangle below the face and fill it with color #f2d2c0.

Step 7

In this step, we will draw the upper body of the Character.

Select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle below the neck. With the help of the Direct Selection Tool, select the top corner points and make them little round to make the shape of shoulders.

and with the help of basic shape tools design the clothes of your Flat Vector Character illustration.
