Overlap Letters in Adobe Illustrator
Overlapping or interlocking the letters in Adobe Illustrator helps in making your text more attractive and effective. Different colored letters and different overlapping styles help in creating unique effects in your artwork.
Today’s tutorial is about creating Overlapping letters in Adobe Illustrator.
Step 1
Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now select the Rectangle Tool to create a background.
Now press Ctrl + 2 to lock the background. Select Type Tool and click on the artboard and type your letter. Again select the Type Tool and click on the artboard to type the next letter.
Increase the font size and bring both the text close to each other to create the Overlapping effect.
Step 2
In this step, we will create the Overlap Text.
Select both the letters and click on Type in the Menu Bar and select Create Outlines.
Now ungroup the selection by clicking on the Ungroup button in the Properties Panel.
Select the letters and go to the Pathfinder Panel and click on Divide.
Now again Ungroup the selection.
Select parts of the first letter excluding the parts of which you want to create the overlapping text and click on Merge in the Pathfinder Panel.
Now fill the strokes of the merged letter with the color of the background.
In the above image, you can see that your text is giving the effect of Overlapping.
Step 3
In this step, we will select the parts of the second letter and similarly merge them as it was done in the first letter.
Now it’s time to give a stroke fill to the letter. The stroke color will be the same as that of the color of the background.
