Half Tone in Adobe Illustrator
Half Tone is a Photoshop effect, but we will create it in Adobe Illustrator. The Half Tone Effect is a preset effect in illustrator under the Effect in Menu Bar, but one has to be wise while setting up the angles and radius of the pixels.
The above image is an example of Half Tone Effect. In today’s tutorial, you will learn to create Half Tone Pattern in basic shapes with different angles and pixel radius.
Let’s begin with the step-by-step tutorial-
Step 1
Create a new document and draw 4 different basic shapes with the help of shape tools. I have drawn a rectangle, circle, polygon, and star.
Now fill these shapes with different shades of gradients and disable the strokes. Try to have a different angle of the gradient in each shape.
Step 2
Now select one shape and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Then place the cursor on Pixelate and select Color Halftone.
After selecting Color Halftone, a dialogue box will appear with default settings of the pixel radius and angles. You have to change the pixel radius and angles of every shape to see the result of different radius and angles.
For the rectangle shape, I am setting the pixel radius to 30 and angles to 45 degrees.
After making changes, click OK to apply the effect.
Step 3
If you want to make any changes in the applied effect like I want to reduce the pixel radius, select the shape, and go to the Appearance Panel. In the appearance panel, select Color Halftone, and the dialogue box will appear. Now make the required changes and click OK.
Practice
Now apply the Halftone Effect on the other shapes similarly as we had applied the effect on the rectangle shape. Try to use a different radius and angle for each shape to create the Halftone Pattern.
