Wavy Road Effect in Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will learn to create Wave Effect in Photoshop. We will create this effect on a road image. Therefore, it will be a Wavy Road Effect in Photoshop tutorial.

We will use two images in this tutorial. One of a road and the another of wavy water. We will combine both images to create the Wave Effect in Photoshop. We will also use the Blending Mode and Brush Tool to create this easy wave distortion effect in Photoshop.

You can download the images from Pexel and Unsplash for free.

Let’s begin with the tutorial-

Step 1

Open the road image in Photoshop. By default, the image will open as a Background Layer in Layers Panel. Press Ctrl + J to create a copy of the image. Rename the copied layer as Image.

Go to File > Place Embedded. Then browse the wavy water image from your files and place it.

Now I will resize the wavy water image so that it fully covers the road. You can reduce the Opacity of the wavy water image so that you can see the road image beneath it.

After transforming the image size, hit Enter (Windows)/ Return(Mac).

Reduce the opacity and transform the image size.

Step 3

Increase the Opacity of the wavy water image to 100%. Reorder the layers by placing the wavy water image layer just above the Background Layer.

Then hide the visibility of the top layer, named Image.

Step 4

Select the wavy water image layer in the Layers Panel and change its Blending Mode to Overlay.

Step 5

We have blended the wavy water image with the road image in the above step. But, it has also got blended with other parts of the image. To remove the blending effect from the other parts we will add a Layer Mask to the wavy water image layer.

Select the layer and click on the Add Layer Mask icon in the Layers Panel. Set the Foreground Color to Black and then select the Brush Tool. With left-click move the cursor on the part of the image from where you want to hide the wavy water blending effect.

Step 6

Turn on the visibilty of the top layer and select the layer. Then change the blending mode of the layer to Color.
