In this tutorial, we will make the Stair Text Effect in Adobe Illustrator. This text effect is easy to draw and you can make this text effect in a few easy steps.
We will use the Rectangle Tool, Type Tool, Pathfinder Panel, and 3D Rotate Effect to make Stair Text in Illustrator.
Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now follow the below mentioned easy to draw steps:
Select the Rectangle Tool from the Tool Panel and draw a rectangle the same as the size of the artboard.
This will be the background of our Stair Text.
Fill the rectangle with color # 051b21.
Select the background and press Ctrl + 2 to lock the background layer.
Now select the Type Tool from the Tool Panel and type the text on the artboard. Choose a bold and condensed Font Style and increase the Font Size.
Select the text and press Shift + Ctrl + O to make the text an editable text.
Now again select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle above the text.
Let the rectangle be selected and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Path and select Spilt into Grid.
Now set the Number of Rows to 3 in the Split into Grid dialogue box.
Check the Preview and click OK.
Now select the text and the rectangle grid and open the Pathfinder Panel (Shift + Ctrl + F9).
To form the Stairs we will divide the text with the help of the Pathfinder Panel.
After opening the Pathfinder Panel, click on Divideto cut the text.
Press Shift + Ctrl + G to ungroup the selection.
Now press Ctrl + Y to enable Outline Mode.
Select the Selection Tool and remove the unwanted paths. (See the image below)
Now with the help of the Selection Tool and Shift key, select the first row and press Ctrl + G to make a group.
Similarly, make a group of the second and third rows also. Then press Ctrl + Y to disable the Outline Mode.
Select the first and third row and change the Fill color to # f7941d.
Now select the second row and change its color to #fcc97e.
Now we will give an effect of Stairs to the text.
Again select the first and third row and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select 3D Rotate.
In the 3D Rotate Options dialogue box, set the position to Isometric Top and click OK.
Similarly, with the help of the 3D Rotate, rotate the second row to the position of Isometric Left.
Now with the help of the Selection Tool, place the rows properly close to each other forming the Stairs.
