3D Snooker Balls in Adobe Illustrator

3D Snooker Balls in Adobe Illustrator

In today’s tutorial, we will create 3D Snooker Balls in Adobe Illustrator. We will be creating these balls with the help of the 3D Revolve Effect. This effect is my most favorite effect in Adobe Illustrator as with the help of this effect we can change a simple line into a perfect shape.
Today’s topic is to create 3D Snooker Balls in Adobe Illustrator. We will at first create symbols and then we will create our 3D ball.

Step 1
In this step, we will create the numbers which are printed on the Snooker Balls
.
Create a new document and select the Ellipse Tool from the Tool Panel. Now draw two circles of different sizes. The fill color will be white and the stroke will be black in color. Now select the Type Tool and type a number and place it at the center of the circle.
You can use the Align Panel for placing the number at the center of the circle.
Now again select the Type Tool and type another number. Place it at the center of the second circle.
Step 2
Now we will add the numbers created in the above step as Symbols.
Go to the Menu Bar and click on Window and select Symbols. Symbols Panel will appear on the artboard. Now select one circle and the number and drag it into the Symbols Panel and release the click. A Symbol Option dialogue box will appear. In that dialogue box, you can give a name to your symbol and then click OK.
Similarly, add another number and circle as a new symbol.
In the above image, you can see in the Symbols Panel the two new symbols have been added.
Step 3
In this step, we will create two semi-circles of different sizes.
Select the Ellipse Tool from the Tool Panel and draw two circles of different sizes. Change the color of the strokes for both the circles and mark Fill as No Fill.
Now select one circle and then select the Scissor Tool and cut the circle into half. Delete one-half part of the circle. Then select the Pen Tool and join the anchor points of the other half part of the circle to form a semi-circle. Repeat the same steps for the second circle to convert it into a semi-circle.
Step 4
Now we will create a 3D Snooker Ball.
Select one semicircle and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select Revolve. After selecting Revolve, the 3D Revolve Option box will appear. Put a checkmark on Preview and then click on Map Art.
A Map Art dialogue box will appear when you will click on Map Art. In the Map Art, the dialogue box clicks on the drop-down button of Symbols. From that drop-down select one of the new symbols added.
